Weekly Recap of Kharon 4/29-5/2
Kharon Chapter 53
Kiarah is steering the Kharon on the bridge while Emma plays with Sparky nearby. Luke storms onto the bridge. “Why are we slowing down?”, he demands.
“Vice Island is dead ahead. It’s one of the few locations we can pick up supplies”, says Kiarah in her normal cool tone.
“What supplies do we need? We're getting food and water from the ocean and the Kharon has a self-sustaining power source.”
“Weapons and ammunition”, Emma chimes in without even looking up from Sparky.
Luke turns to look at her and gives a small grimace and then turns back to Kiarah. “We won’t need weapons at The Gardens.”
“True. But based on our voyage so far wouldn’t you think it prudent to replenish our stock till we reach The Gardens.”
“Alright you have a point", Luke grumbles. "Maybe we should get another ship while we’re at it this since this one blows so far.”
“That would be a mistake. This ship is the most powerful weapon on the seas. It just needs to be stocked with weapons.”
“Fine. But we better make it quick.”
Emma stands up and scoops Sparky up in her arms. “I’ll second that after our last adventure.”
“We’ll be safe. Vice Island has no bad blood with the Quarsians. The inhabitants are all about material wealth and cerebrations. As long as they are treated fairly in a deal I have known them to be quite agreeable and accommodating.”
“Then we shouldn’t let Jacob off the ship”, says Luke.
“Hey! Leave him alone, he’s an alright guy”, says Emma.
“How would you know”, snaps Luke.
“I’m just saying give him a break is all.” Emma walks out of the bridge with Sparky.
Kharon Chapter 54
The crew of the Kharon stand on the docks of Vice Island. The Kharon moored securely. Before them stretches an island that looks like a lavish paradise resort. Gold guilded towers and bright lights fill the landscape. One skyscraper even has a waterfall that falls out of it and then back inside the building again.
Jacob looks around admiringly. “You know maybe I’ll just settle here.”
“You’re leaving us?”, Emma blurts out.
“A guy could do a lot worse than Vice City. I could just never figure out how to get off that fucking rock I grew up on.”
“What about The Gardens?”
“I still say it’s a fairy tale.”
“You want to stay, be my guest", says Luke.
“I’ll help you get your supplies first. I can set up my capital start up here. That way we both benefit.”
Luke narrows his eyes at Jacob for a moment. “If you fuck me over again I swear...”
“Ease up. It will be just like old times.”
“Let’s hope not exactly like old times. For your sake.”
Kharon Chapter 55
The group walks up to a merchant and Jacob asks him, “We’re in the market for some artillery.”
“Whaddaya got?”, sneers the merchant.
“We got fish.”
“We’re on an island.”
“We have crystals.”
“Not very popular here. People like funner weapons.” The merchant than spots Sparky and his eyebrows raise. “Hmmm…sophisticated A.I. That might fetch you something.”
Emma hugs Sparky and positions her body between him and the merchant. “He’s not for sale.”
Simone then places the hilt of her sword on the merchants table. But before the merchant is able to examine it Luke snatches it back and hands it to Simone. “Don’t give up your weapon.”
“Just tell us who makes the deals here, who raises the sales, I need the name of the fixer”, says Jacob.
“For weapons that's either Johnny or The Mist.”
“Where can we find them?”
“The Mist can be seen at Waterfall Tower. Johnny usually hangs at the Electric Air.”
“What’s that some kind of club”, asks Jacob. The merchant responds by pointing down the street. Jacob turns to Luke. “You go check out this Johnny fella. I’l go check out The Mist.” Jacob uses air quotes when he says ‘The Mist’.
“Sparky and I will come with you”, says Emma.
“Uh…okay….if you want that is”, says Jacob clearly taken aback by this development.
“I’ll go with Luke”, says Simone.
“I believe I will also go with Luke. I always find the dancing of non-Quarsian’s amusing.”
“So be it. But we meet back at the ship in .5 cycles to leave. Got it?”
The others nod and the group splits off.
Kharon Chapter 56
Kiarah, Simone and Luke enter an eclectic multi-layer colorful club. They all clearly feel out of place as they walk around.
“I actually remember this club now. Best spot to cut loose on this forsaken ball of water.”
Luke approaches a bartender and asks, “Do you know a trader named Johnny?”
“He ain’t in yet but should be soon”, the bartender curtly replies.
“We’ll just wait for him”, says Luke turning back to the others.
“I’m going to have some fun while we wait. Come on.” With that Simone grabs Luke’s arm and to his surprise starts pulling him towards the dancing.
“I don’t dance.”
“Then I’ll teach you.”
“Its not something I choose to do.”
“Well maybe that should change.” Luke begrudgingly gets dragged to the dance floor while Kiarah sits down at a table in a shadowy corner of the club.
A gentleman approaches Kiarah and asks, “Are you Quarsian?”
“Who wants to know?”
Meanwhile on the dance floor Luke awkwardly tries to dance with Simone but he is much too rigid. “You really don’t know how to dance, do you?”
“Told you. I’m sitting down”, Luke grumbles.
Simone pulls Luke close to her and says, “Loosen the hips and just follow my body.”
“Why are you doing this?”
Simone avoids eye contact with Luke. “Do me a favor and just stop asking questions and move with me for a little bit.”
