Kharon Part 72

Kharon Chapter 72

         Back on the Kharon Emma, Sparky and Jacob run onto the bridge.  “What the hell is going on?”, asks Jacob.

        “It’s some kind of floating island of ice”, answers Luke trying desperately to bring the engines back online.

        “I thought that was just a legend”, says Jacob.

        “Hold up a minute.  A floating island of ice?”

        “Yea its a legendary island that is made entirely of ice and floats through the ocean swallowing up ships”, explains Jacob.

        Luke smashes his fist on the console.  “Fuck!  That’s exactly what just happened to us.  I can’t budge the ship.”

        “So we’re now a part of this island?”, asks Emma.

        “Not if I have anything to say about it dammit!”  Luke storms out of the bridge with a determined expression of rage.  Emma, Jacob and Sparky follow after him.

        Luke is strapping weapons to himself in the weapons storage bay of the ship.  Emma and Jacob are also arming themselves.  “Where’s Kiarah and Simone?  If we’re going to rumble it’s probably smart to have those two along for the ride”, questions Jacob.

        “I’ve no idea but they’ll have to catch up.  The longer we stay frozen like this, the harder it gets to break free”, says Luke cocking a ray gun.  

        “Whoa put the fucking brakes on.  We ain’t going to survive without those two.”

        “What are you worried about.  You and Emma played hero on the last two islands without complaint.”

        “Maybe I’m concerned not everyone on this mission gots my back.”

        “Maybe you’re right to be concerned.”

        “Oh for crying out loud not this old routine again.  You know it’s really growing stale”, says Emma.  “Just grow up already.”

       “It’s not about growing up.  It’s about not wasting my time on lying backstabbers who only look out for themselves”, snaps Luke.

        “Did you ever think that maybe you don’t know anything you fuck-face”, yells Jacob.

        “What are you talking about?”

        “Nothing.  Let’s go.”  Jacob grabs two guns and storms out of the bay.  Luke looks at Emma who just shrugs.

Kharon Part 71

Kharon Chapter 71

         Simone and Kiarah rocket through the water in the Quarsian Stingers.  Soon they are met with other small ships in the water that look like bob sleds made of ice.  These sled ships blast rays at Simone and Kiarah.  The rays seem to cover anything it hits with a sheet of ice.  Simone and Kiarah dodge the blasts and fire their own torpedos back.  The dog fight rages on for several minutes.  The Quarsian Stingers are faster and more agile so they easily out maneuverer the other ships as they zip through the under sea currents.  Eventually the dog fight is over and only Kiarah and Simone are left in the water.  

        “We won!”, cries Simone.

        “I wouldn’t celebrate quite yet”, says Kiarah as more ice sleds approach.  

        Simone and Kiarah try to continue the fight and protect the Kharon but there are just too many this time and they are overwhelmed.  One of the ice ships shoots its ray at the Kharon freezing the motors.  Another ship creates an ice cable that connects the now frozen motor to the sled like vessel.  Other ice ships do the same and begin towing the Kharon.  Simone and Kiarah try breaking the cables and destroying the ships but it’s no use.  The momentum of the Kharon causes the ship to crash into the floating island made of ice.  The sled-like ice ships quickly encase the Kharon in ice attaching it securely to the island.  Their job done they disappear under the floating island.  

Kharon Part 70

Kharon Chapter 70

         The suns are shining as Luke walks onto the bridge and finds Kiarah piloting.  “Shouldn’t you be resting?”, he asks her.  Kiarah responds with a look that could kill.  “Hey!  Drop the fucking attitude.  You owe us.  We could have just sailed away on Johnny's ship.”

        “You would have been in the right.  I do not understand why you didn’t do just that.”

        “Talk to Emma and Simone .”  Luke takes out the map from his pocket and unfolds it.  He then slams it down on the console in front of Kiarah.  “How are we coming on this?”

        “We are on course I believe.  I estimate three cycles until the Kharon reaches where your map shows The Gardens to be.”

        “You still think I’m crazy don’t you?”

        “That’s not for me to say.”

        “But you have an opinion?”  Kiarah does not answer him but instead furrows her brow.  Luke sees this and also furrows his brow.  “What’s wrong now?”

        “That island that is just over the horizon was not on any of my maps and I do not recall it ever being there in my travels or teachings.”

        Luke for the first time shows a smile on his face.  “Do you mean…we finally reached The Gardens.  It does exist!”

         Kiarah’s eyes go wide.  “No, not The Gardens.”

         “Oh come on what other island just fucking appears.”

         “The floating island.”  With that Kiarah dashes out of the bridge.

         Luke scratches his head.  “The floating island?”

        As Kiarah dashes down the corridors of the Kharon she comes across Simone who is also running towards her with panic in her eyes.  “Is that the…?”, Simone starts.

        Kiarah cuts her off before she can finish.  “Yes.  Follow me.”

        Simone and Kiarah run to the bowels of the Kharon.  Kiarah pulls a lever and a piece of the floor flips revealing on its underside several submersible vessels that can each fit one person.  “Woozoo!  Quarsian Stingers.  I was wondering if this ship had any onboard.”

        “You take port side.  I’ll take starboard.”

        “I get to pilot one?”, asks Simone surprised at the level of trust.

        “I believe that’s prudent given the circumstances.”

        “Let’s do it then”, says Simone climbing into one of the vessels.

Kharon Part 69

Kharon Chapter 69

        Emma is sitting on the deck at night looking up at the faint light of the stars through the haze and clouds.  Sparky is sleeping in her lap.  Jacob walks up and sits next to her.  “You know...you and I make a pretty good team”, says Jacob.

“Yea, I guess we kinda do.”

“Listen that time we were…you know…together…”

“You mean fucked?”

“Yea.  Did I do anything to freak you out?”

Emma shakes her head.  “No, it was nice.”

"I wouldn’t mind making it a regular occurrence.”

Emma shifts awkwardly waking Sparky.  “It’s probably best we didn’t.”

“Why?  I thought you said…”

“Oh I know but it’s just….I don’t want you getting too attached.  I’m not the type to settle down.”

  “I’m not proposing marriage here.”

“Good”, says Emma standing up.  She gives Jacob a kiss on the cheek and then walks away.  Sparky trots after her.  

Jacob is walking the halls trying to figure out what just happened between him and Emma.  He doesn’t notice Luke leaning against the wall in front of him.  “Why didn't you take the speeder back to Vice Island?  Thought you were setting up shop there?”, asks Luke.

  Jacob looks up at Luke coldly.  “Turns out it wasn’t for me.”

“That’s surprising knowing you.”

“Maybe you don’t know me as well as you think.”  Jacob pushes past Luke and continues walking as Luke eyes him.

Recap of Kharon for May 20-May 23

Kharon Chapter 65

         Emma, Sparky, and Jacob are running up a hill.  Once on top they stop and look out onto the ocean.  They see Johhny’s ship and the Kharon sailing away.  “What the fuck?!  They’re ditching us!”, exclaims Jacob.

        “It must be that friend of The Mist stealing the Kharon.”

        “Speaking of The Mist”, says Jacob as he turns and looks behind them.  The samurais and The Mist are catching up to them.  Jacob, Emma, and Sparky start running again.  

        Jacob suddenly stops at a bar where people are drinking out of large steel keg like drums.  “What’s the matter?”, asks Emma.

        Jacob eyes the kegs and examines them.  “I might have an idea if you think you can take out her thugs.”

        Emma spots a shovel leaning against the wall of the tavern and smirks.  

       The samurais reach the tavern and look around for the people they are pursuing.  Emma then sneaks up behind one and swings the shovel smacking him on the head and knocking him out cold.  She then whirls around and smacks another samurai before he can react.  She is then charged by a third samurai.  But she dodges out of the way at the last minute and trips him with the shovel sending him crashing to the ground.  The fourth samurai tries to swing his sword at Emma but she block it with the shovel.  She then jabs the end of the shovel into his gut and he hunches over in pain.  Emma swings down the shovel onto his head.  The third samurai gets up trying to recover but Emma smacks him in the face sending a cracking sound ringing through the air.

        The Mist then coalesces into human form in front of Emma.  “You may have gotten lucky with my minions but it will take more than luck to defeat me.”

        “I know that’s why I got this.”  With that Emma drops the shovel and unsheathes her crossbow and fires it at The Mist.  The Mist dissipates into a vapor to let the arrows pass through her but just as she does this Jacob springs up from his hiding place and fires his wind tunnel gun.  The Mist having not yet re-solidified is blown into a steel drum.  Emma slams the lid on it and screws it in tight before The Mist can escape.  

        The Mist now trapped screams, “Let me out this instant!”

        Emma then picks up Sparky and places him on top of the metal container. Sparky lets out an electric bolt that shocks The Mist through the container.  

        Jacob then says, “Alright lets evaluate this situation.  We want off this island and you want out of there.  So what’s say you and I make a deal.”

Kharon Chapter 66

        Simone and Luke are in their cell sulking.  “I’m sorry you never got to The Gardens”, says Simone.  

        “I thought you didn’t believe it was real?”

        Simone shrugs.  “I guess I just don’t believe there is a place I can be happy.”

        “The Colony screwed you up that much?”

        “I just never knew what I wanted out of life.”

        “I know that feeling.  That’s why I wanted The Gardens so bad.  Thought it would be a place that would…be  different.”

        Just then they hear fighting sounds and grunts coming from outside their cell.  “You don’t think….”

        “Na he would never risk his neck for me.”  They then both look at each other as they hear the buzz of electricity.  Jacob springs into the room and uses his wind tunnel gun to blow against the guards who try and attack him.  Emma then fires her crossbow at them and they go down hard.  Jacob grabs the keys off them and frees Simone and Luke.  

        “How did you find us?”

        “A new friend we made got us a powerful speeder.”

        “We’re adding a new crew member?”

        “Not exactly.  I’ll explain later.”

        Luke walks up to Jacob and stares at him for a moment.  He then mutters, “Thanks”, under his breath.

        “Yea well Emma’s a softie so what ya gonna do.”

        Sparky shocks the metallic serpents off of Simone and Luke.  “Follow me”, yells Simone as she runs off with the others trailing behind.  

        They follow her into a massive weapon storage room.

        “Paydirt!”, exclaims Jacob.

        “This was the same place he had it in his other ship”, explains Simone as she starts examining the weapons and strapping them to herself.  She then grabs her fire sword hilt and tosses Luke his Viper.  The gang loads up on gear just as a bunch of thugs run into the room.  “Just in time.”  The gang fights their way through Johnny’s henchmen.  

Kharon Chapter 67

        Back on the bridge Johnny and his gang are piloting the Kharon with Kiarah’s help.  One of Jonny's gang runs onto the bridge out of breath and shouts, “Hey!  Johnny!  Our old ship is falling behind.  It’s just drifting in the fucking ocean.”

       Johnny patches into the Kharon’s communication system and says, “Puddle Skimmer come in.  This is the Kharon.  Why aren’t you keeping pace?”  No response comes over the radio.  Johnny grabs Kiarah and shakes her violently.  “Tell me how to fire this ship’s weapons!”

        “Then will you let him go?”

        “We’ll see.”

       The Kharon turns around and fires its weapons at the other ship which explodes in a fiery ball.  Just then Luke, Emma, Simone, Jacob and Sparky appear on the bridge loaded to the gills with weapons.  

        “You missed”, says Simone.  They all begin fighting.  

        Emma holds up Sparky.  “Hold still and Sparky…”. Before Emma can finish her sentence she is tackled by Kiarah.  

        Kiarah screams, “No!  You’re going to get Hamak killed!”

        “What the hell is wrong with you?  Who the hell is Hamak?”, yells Emma as her and Sparky struggle against Kiarah.  Jacob jumps on top of Kiarah trying to help Emma and Sparky.  

       “What did you do to her?!”, snaps Simone as she fights Johnny with a normal sword.

       “Old Metron trick”, answers Johnny.

        Luke dispatches with the last of Johnny's gang and joins the others in trying to subdue Kiarah.  

        “Do you really expect to beat me as long as I have a Quarsian on my side?”, asks Johnny as he pins Simone against the console.

        “No which is why I need this”, says Simone as she takes her fire sword hilt out of its concealed spot in her sash and turns it on.  The fiery blade appears and cuts off Johnny’s arm with the controller for the metallic serpents.  Johnny screams in pain as Simone quickly grabs the arm and uses the device to shock Kiarah.  Kiarah falls to the ground unconscious.  Meanwhile Johnny tries to come up behind Simone and stab her with a knife and his remaining hand.  

        “Look out!”, cries Luke.  At the last moment Simone evades Johnny and runs her fire sword through his chest.  

       As Johnny falls to the ground dead Simone leans in close to Johnny and whispers, “For what it’s worth, sorry I took your ship.”

Kharon Chapter 68

        Later Jacob  is walking onto the bridge which has been cleared of bodies.  Luke is piloting the ship as Simone finishes cleaning up the last of the blood with a mop.  Kiarah sits holding her head in the corner guarded by Sparky. Emma also enters the bridge of the Kharon.  

        “I just finished putting the last of Johnny’s weapons away.  We’re pretty stocked now”, says Emma.

        “All the dead bodies have been tossed overboard”, adds Jacob.

        “How’s Kiarah doing?”, asks Emma.

        “I’m fine”, growls Kiarah.  “The effects have worn off now unhook this thing from my neck this instant.”

        "You gonna play nice?", grunts Luke.

        “Like you're one to talk.  Sparky do your thing”, says Emma.

        Sparky electrifies the ring and it falls off.  “That was a most unpleasant experience”, Kiarah says as she rubs her neck.  

        “At least we got a stash of weapons and a speeder for our troubles”, says Emma.

        “Oh I had to send the speeder back to Vice Island with The Mist”, says Jacob.

        “Was she pissed when you let her out?”, asks Emma.

        “Like I was going to take chances with that.  I just set the speeder on cruise control.  Someone on the island will let her out…eventually.”

        “Wait did you set the speeder on cruise control or auto-pilot?”, asks Simone.

        “Cruise control?  Why?”

        “Well I’m not sure how her powers work but if you shocked her with Sparky while in that container then you could have charged a compressed electron mass.  And that speeder had a fusion power system.  So in theory how it hits the island could….”  Simone stops as the entire crew stares at her surprised.  “Hey I had to have some science knowledge to break out of The Colony didn’t I?”

         “So what are you saying?”, asks Emma.  In response to her question there is a flash of light that goes off just over the horizon in the direction of Vice Island that they all see through the view screens.  “Really?!  Five islands now.”

Kharon Parts 67 and 68

Whoops forgot to post a chapter yesterday.  Here's a double dose to make up for it

Kharon Chapter 67

Kharon Chapter 61

        The Mist stares intently at Jacob and Emma for several moments.  “So you’ve come to overthrow me and this is the best you can come up with?”, asks The Mist.

        “Look lady, I don’t know who you think we are but we aren’t interested in overthrowing anybody.  We’ve come to make a deal that’s lucrative for both of us”, says Jacob.

        “My friend Johnny warned me all about you two and your tricks.  Said you work for a pirate queen who double-crossed him cycles ago.”

        “Who Simone?  She’s barely an acquaintance”, says Jacob.  “Now let’s calm down and talk business.”

        “Wait a minute!”, says Emma.  “If Johnny is someone angry at Simone that could mean the others are in danger.”

        “They’ll be fine”, whispers Jacob out of the corner of his mouth.  He then smiles and turns back to The Mist.  “She spends too much time around the A.I., causes delirium.  Doesn’t know what she’s saying half the time.”

         “Jacob!  They’re our friends.  I know you try your best to hide it but I can tell you care about Luke deep down.”

        Jacob laughs and turns to Emma.  “Him?  I don’t give a swamp rat’s ass what happens to him.”

        “You don’t have to pretend for me.  I already know.”

        Jacob ponders looking back and forth between the two women.  He then lets out a long sigh and rolls his eyes.  “Let’s go find them.”  

       Jacob, Emma and Sparky head towards where they came from to look for the panel that brings them back to the reception area.  But a ball of energy blasts intbetween them knocking everyone to the ground.  The Mist stands with her hands glowing and says, “I didn’t say we were finished here.”  The Mist then extends her hands and snakes of smoke come out of them and attack Jacob, Emma and Sparky.  Sparky snaps and zaps at them.  They coil around Jacob before he can reach his gun though.  Emma takes out a concealed knife she has on her and uses it to slice through Jacob’s coils as she fires her crossbow at The Mist.  The arrows go right through The Mist having no affect.

        Jacob now free takes out his gun and shoots a mighty wind tunnel at The Mist which disperses her.  “Your gun works better than mine”, says Emma.

        “Get the door.  I’ll try to hold her off.”  

        Emma searches for a way to open the panel but finds none.  "Oh the hell with this."  She then fires her crossbow at the wall and it blows open a hole.  She runs out through it along with Sparky and Jacob follows.

Kharon Chapter 62

         Simone and Luke still with metallic serpents coiled around their bodies are pacing around a cell in the bows of Johnny’s ship.  Several of his crew members stand guard.  “Where do you think they took Kiarah?”, asks Luke.

        “Probably to the Kharon.”

        “Once again everything I worked for goes to hell”, says Luke.  

        “I have that affect on people.”

        “So I’ve noticed.  I knew I was better off alone.”

        “I don’t know if I would say that.”

        “Really?  Because I stayed with all of you and now look where it got me.”

        “We can think of something.”

        “That’s right!  You’re the master of escapes.  What’d ya got?”

        “I’m working on it.”

        “Well work harder.  You didn’t have any trouble with the Sloons.”

        “Them I’m used to dealing with.  These things are another story."  Simone gestures to the coil around her waist.

        “Figures the one time I need that slime ball he wouldn’t be here.”

        “Who Jacob? Why would need him?”

        “He’s good with mechanical stuff that was his ticket to fame.  That’s how we got together.  I was a homeless beggar that he got to be a distraction while he made machines do what he wanted.”

        “So you two started out as con men?”

         Luke shrugs.  “I guess that’s how things started.  It worked well enough to get us by.  Jacob had big dreams though.”

        “So what ever happened to those big dreams?”

        “They blew up in our faces.  Just like everything else in my life.  It was a big score.  I was supposed to be the diversion only when it came time for the getaway Jacob hung me out to dry.  I was trapped and got picked up.”

        “That’s pretty lousy of him.”

        “Yea…it fucking was.”

Kharon Chapter 63

       Sparky Jacob and Emma are running through the building being chased by samurais and a cloud of mist.  “This isn’t going as well as I’d hoped”, says Jacob.  They both stop running when they come to the top of the waterfall in the building and find themselves cornered.  “Shit how’d we end up here?  This place is a fucking maze!"

        “Well let’s hope Sparky is waterproof.”

        “What!?  Oh hell no!”  Jacob turns to the Samurais and the now forming Mist.  He holds up his hands.  “We give up.  We surrender.”

        “Oh we do not you big baby!”  Emma grabs Jacob and before he realizes what’s happening she heaves him over the waterfall.  He screams the whole way down.  Emma then scoops Sparky up in her arms and jumps into the waterfall after him.  The three of them plummet down the waterfall before landing with a splash in the water several stories below in the building.

        Jacob stunned checks himself for mortal wounds.  “I’m alive!  I can’t believe it!  How do I keep surviving these shenanigans?”

       “Luck maybe?  But our luck will run out if we don’t keep moving”, says Emma as she and Sparky climb out of the water and then help Jacob out.  They both then continue to run.

Kharon Chapter 64

     Kiarah is on the bridge with Johnny and some of his crew.  “I won’t tell you how to work this ship.  There is nothing you can threaten me with.”  

  “Yes I’m aware that the Quarsians are notoriously difficult to coerce.  And since your the last of them I would imagine you haven’t much more to lose.  Luckily your old friends the Metrons left me with a parting gift.”  Johnny produces a syringe and uncaps it as his thugs grab Kiarah.  Kiarah tries fighting them off but Johnny uses the his special device to aid them in subduing her.  He then injects the syringe into her arm.  

  As Kiarah then stands back up she clutches her head and appears to get groggy.  She blinks several times and her jaw drops as she sees standing before her the beloved Fronzo that she lost in the great war.  Suddenly her Fronzo is held by thugs at knife point.  She cries out to the hallucination, “Hamak! My Fronzo, no!!!”  She turns to Johnny and pleads with him, “I’ll tell you anything you want!  Just don’t hurt him!”

  “Perfect”, says Johnny smiling.

  Back in their cell Simone and Luke are jolted as the ship begins to move.  “We’re moving!”, exclaims Simone.

  “He must have gotten Kiarah to help him pilot the Kharon somehow.”

  “Now we’re really fucked.  Jacob ad Emma won’t bother to look for us on the seas.”

  “Even if they did.  They’ll never find us.”

       “So how’s that escape plan looking”, says Luke sarcastically.
