Prinooween-Chapter 1

Hello-

As promised here is an all new story I call Prinooween.  Enjoy :)

Chapter 1

Earth in the near future:

John is running across an apocalyptic wasteland.  He is still fairly young looking with a mediterranean complexion and runners physique.  He is carrying a staff with him that appears to be made out of some kind of translucent metal.  Although he is running fast, every now and then he turns around and uses his staff as a sort of shield to absorb laser blasts that are being fired in his direction.  John turns to the man running beside him to check on him. Sweat is running down Sal’s cherub like face and his sandy blonde hair is matted. Sal is bulkier than John but he just doesn’t quit.  John knows Sal is giving it hell along with him just like he always has.  When John turns, Sal turns as well and uses a big metallic gun to return the laser fire with his own brand of energy blasts.  Sal and John turn and start running again.  John checks to make sure Karen and Michael are still ahead of them.  It is hard to make them out with all the explosions and smoke around them.  The oppressive heat turns the air into a haze as it sizzles and the wind blows hard in John’s face.  But fortunately he can just make them out ahead.  They look like yin and yang running together since Michael is so dark and muscular and Karen so fair and with a gymnast physique.  The lighting balls exploding in the sky give off enough light for John to see that they are out of breath too just like him and Sal.  Just another day in hell on earth John thinks to himself as rockets shoot off not too far away.
As laser fire hits all around them again John and Sal once more stop running for a moment to turn and face their pursuers.  As John shields them from some of the blasts he can barely make out over the thunder and explosions Sal yelling, “Damn killbots!”, as he fires his gun.
John yells back, “With the helicruiser overhead what do they plan to do with those rockets!”
“Bring it down on our fucking heads!”  Just then a triangular black ship comes flying in towards them.  “Find cover!  In coming Chevono!”  John and Sal race to Karen and Michael who have already ducked into a ditch.  They dive in just as the Chevono flies past them.  In it’s wake the ground explodes.  The foursome begin to climb out of the rubble after the ship has passed.
“Everyone ok?”, asks Karen.
John is brushing off dust and picking rocks out of his hair, “I don’t know if I would go that far but we are all in one piece I think.”
Michael examines the wall of stone and debris now blocking where they were running towards, “Yeah but with no escape route.”
“We can try to climb over it”, John exclaims trying to stay positive.  But no sooner has he finished saying that when more blasts start coming towards them.  John instinctively turns to try and shield the others.
“No time”, says Michael using his past military training to quickly asses the situation.
“Someone just pick a direction and run in it!”, yells Sal as he fires his large odd looking gun at where the blasts are coming from.
“My seven o’clock now!”, yells Michael hoping his instincts are correct.  The others quickly follow with Sal and John trying to cover their rear.  But they don’t run long until they come to a body of water and all stop dead in their tracks.  Michael grabs a piece of metal debris lying on the ground and tosses it in the water.  As soon as it hits the water it starts to disintegrate.  “Damn, too acidic.  Sorry looks like I led us to a dead end.”
“Dead being the appropriate word.  I hear drones in coming”, says John.  John isn’t upset or even afraid.  When you live with death always around the corner like he and his three comrades have for so long you just take every moment for what it is.
“Well guys”, says Karen, “it looks like this is it.  It was a good run we had.”
Just then the ground starts shaking violently.  “God, that’s the fifth earthquake today! Enough already!”, says Michael instinctively making sure his bow and quiver of arrows are secure.
“It doesn’t feel like an earthquake”, says Karen as she tries to steady herself.
“It’s from these bastards.  They are bombing the whole place”, says Sal over his gun fire.
“It doesn’t feel like bombs either”, says Karen looking around and not believing her eyes as she spots a hole forming on the ground a couple yards in front of them and to the left.  A hole that seems to be growing bigger and coming towards them.  She points, “Look I think that’s what the cause is.”
“Shit!  Not another sinkhole”, says Michael as laser blasts explode around them.
“Killbots and drones incoming!”, yells Sal as he and John become increasingly less successful at holding them off despite their best efforts.
“That doesn’t look like any sinkhole I have seen”, says Karen as she starts feeling a pull in the air towards the hole and sees things being sucked into it.
“Probably a new breed.  Who knows what this planet will throw at us next”, says John feeling his staff starting to overheat from all the energy it is absorbing.  He clenches and tries to ignore the pain as the staff starts to burn through his callouses.

“Ok”, yells Sal, “Pick your poison lady and gentlemen.  Sulfuric acid, bots, or bizarre sinkhole.”  Suddenly Karen looses her footing as she is being sucked into the hole.  John turns around and extends his staff towards Karen.  Karen grabs onto it and winces as she touches the hot metal.  But no sooner has she grabbed on then Michael looses his footing too.  He grabs onto the staff as well but it’s too much and John looses his footing and all three go tumbling down the hole.  Sal still firing sees this and turns to follow the others down the hole, “Guess bizarre sinkhole it is.”  All four disappear down the hole just as it starts shrinking.  Just before the hole disappears drones fly overhead dropping napalm on the whole place.
